WATER

It should be no surprise that clean water is vital to our health and well being, but what is the best way to clean your water?

Finding the answer can be a confusing and laborious process, that I’ve gone through so you don’t have to.

Cleaning your water

There are two systems that I have found that will truly do the job of cleaning out all the nasty chemicals, unwanted minerals, and unfortunate prescriptions in our city water.

One is a whole house system with an added under sink system that is for those with a little more funds to support the investment. The other is a counter top water filtration system that will clean the dirtiest water and with a little addition of extra minerals and salt give you hydrating nourishing water and that can easily be packed up and taken on the road.

Clean water will travel.

BERKEY

There’s been some controversy around the Berkey system, but we’ve found it to be a reliable source of clean water when we’re first setting up somewhere or in a short term rental. Berkey touts the amazing capability of cleaning even the most funky pond water. Not that we plan to test that, but trusted sources recommend its superior cleaning ability. The optional additional fluoride filter is a must if you’re in New York City especially.

It takes some work to prime the filters and keep the flow strong, but it’s worth it to not have to rely on a constant flow of disposable glass water bottles.

UPDATE! Ophora now stocks their hyper-oxygenated water at Erewhon in big glass jugs.

Not a great longterm choice if you’re trying to minimize waste, but great to stock up on for road trips etc.

OPHORA

While there are several others that will do the trick and can be trusted for their under sink systems including Multipure which many love, I’ve put my water trust in the team at Ophora, who I have cleaning my whole house, my drinking water, and the water in my small Venice lap pool. I was a swimmer growing up and ultimately stopped because the chlorine was unbearable and while I feel better in a saline pool, it is still producing chlorine. For a year we had an ozone system that required a little chlorine and still it was too much, so when I found Ophora’s pool system which upped the ozone, added. uv light and then a barrel of hydrogen peroxide, and made chlorine absolutely necessary , I was thrilled. We now have a pool that is not only not toxic, but therapeutic!!

Now when I swim I feel like a kid again!

If you have extra dough to spend they can upgrade all their systems with an oxygenation system. The ultimate in lux water treatment.. unfortunately the additional $40k-60k was not in my budget. We did take a soak in their oxygenated hot tub and it was truly heaven.

Anyway their constant research into therapeutic water is what keeps me coming back to them for shower and tub filters (for rentals) and made me feel good about choosing their. systems.

MINERALS

We’ve gotten used to pretty tasteless water after all the standard processes of purification whether healthy or not, but really the water we drink should be rich with minerals as it once was when it came fresh from springs. So just as important as cleaning the water is remineralizing it to return its nutritional value. Remineralizing will also alkalize the water naturally, so hurrah for that. When at home the Ophora system is meant to be doing just that.

But when using the Berkley or any other RO systems we’ve been guided to add trace minerals and Himalayan salt brine to reintroduce healthy minerals that our bodies live on.

What I was taught to do by my biochemist guide Genita Mason (note there is more on her in the Biological Medicine section) was to follow the following recipe to create mineral rich water, after you clean it of course.
